This is my sketch wall. I try to find time for art, but often times training and classes are the most prolific doodling sessions that I have!
I drew this in some GE class at Brooks right after I got back from Juneau in Nov 2009. Obviously the glacier and impressive landscape were ever on my mind...
I painted this with a Chinese brush at my cousins' house in Phoenix, AZ over Christmas 2009. My cousins are beautiful young people with many talents.
This is what a church bulletin is good for- we must have been in Exodus or something because it seems I had Egyptians on the brain!
I had some time on my hands in Missouri- I drew this in 2006 and it is definitely one of my faves!
This is what Tree Bernstein's ENG280 class is good for!
Again- a Tree Bernstein's class moment. I think I was having a foot phase or something.
I drew this in a training for the 2010 season up here in Juneau. My reference was a picture from Hoshino's Alaska. Love his polar bear pictures- so gentle and proud.
Wow. This is a classic. I did this project in 11th grade for a photo class. i was hiking a lot at the Santa Rosa Plateau in Murrieta, CA and I suppose I was reading some Robert Frost- haha. I miss my hills and the time I spent thinking on the trails as I did my 9 mile journeys.
Another painting from Phoenix, AZ Christmas 2009. This is my fave of that series. Yay mushrooms!
This is what Business Law class with Phil Drucker is good for. That man had a very high-pitched voice, my soul seems to have felt stressed and busy...
OOOO! This is Amos and Dorris- they're a mated pair of penguins floating on an iceberg in some harshly beautiful Antarctic environment. I love them. They're kind of badass penguins and would probably hold a up a liquor store if they could have opposable thumb capabilities and brandish firearms.
Cactickles. A fun little mosaic. My time in Phoenix en route back to CA from AK was a good 3 weeks that seems to have left an impression...
This is Peter the Maskeeter. Petey for short. I did this after I got back from a hike out to Blue Mussel Cove Cabin out at Point Bridget (sight of my famous bear story) in April 2010. My friend Cori and I had a contentious relationship with the Peteys that found their way into our cabin! some never made it back out...
I love foxes! This is a red fox. They are so intelligent and astute. Very sophisticated looking animals.
I drew this on December 23, 2009 as my Aunt Nancy read my cousins A Christmas Carol aloud in their living room in Phoenix, AZ. I love Dickens!
Ode to an antelope
Malcom! Malcom is a generic name for the cute little moths we've been seeing in proliferation up here in AK this Spring. Very endearing.
Another throw back! Once again- from 11th grade, but the photo was taken in Spring 2002 at the Louvre in Paris. This is a print with three layers of foam core to enhance a sense of depth- pretty fun!
more Chinese brush painting on the patio of a warm and loving Phoenix home!
This is Cafe Bella in Ventura, CA. We played some songs there one night and I quite enjoyed people watching and analyzing the scene.
I drew this bench referencing a picture taken at the old adobe house at the Santa Rosa Plateau in Murrieta, CA. I have been going there almost all of my life- I hated it as a child, but I came around and it's one of my absolute favorite places on earth. I always hike there when I go home to visit mom and dad- a feeling of total peace and strong history.
This was drawn during a symposium on glaciology at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center in Juneau, AK.
This was drawn based on a tin of hand salve that my friend Erin had at history training for the 2010 season.
yet again... Chinese brush painting in Phoenix
wow...wax bleeds into the paper when exposed to the sun- hmmm. I was listening to some Mumford & Sons singing about very serious matters of the heart. this does their lyrics no justice...
A new technique! I used a stick of incense dipped repeatedly in red wax to draw this- it was very Van Gogh of me and I had yummy salmon on my mind the whole time!
One of the sweetest projects I've ever done. I keep wanting to begin another photo mosaic like this one I made in 11th grade- but I never seem to make the time! Go Tim Burton!!!
I realized that over the years I've done some pretty cool little sketches and art projects while sitting around in classes. For some reason, I am a more attentive listener when my hands are working on something...
